It's been quite a month for coach Stan "Buddy" Evans. The local basketball legend is fresh from the national media spotlight when the Lemoyne men's basketball team upended his alma-mater Syracuse University in an early season exhibition game. Now he has received honors for his place as a former teacher, coach, community leader and role model in the City of Rome. The Goose Creek United U12 Spirit clinched a second-place finish in its league standings with a 6-1 win over the James Island Black Sunday. The Spirit finished the fall season with a 7-2 mark. "I am proud of each and every child on the team," Spirit coach Steve Evans said.

FURIOUS Paul Raynor branded Crawley Town's supporters "spoilt" and "silly" after they booed their side off following Saturday's home defeat to Mansfield. The Reds assistant manager was angry at the fans who turned on their team, chanting "what a load of rubbish" during the second-half and hurling abuse at boss Steve Evans. Town were outclassed for much of the game and Mansfield thoroughly deserved their 2-0 victory, despite going down to 10 men with little over 20 minutes remaining.  

STEVE Evans has turned his attentions to Salisbury City's Matt Tubbs as the Reds' search for a striker gathers pace. The Reds manager believes Tubbs, who has scored an impressive 96 goals in 179 games for Salisbury, is just the man to get Crawley's play-off ambitions back on track. Evans has been linked with a number of forwards in recent weeks as he bids to boost an attacking line that has scored just 18 goals in 19 league games this season.
